PUBLISHED EVALUATION
Thiam was described as a fluid, rangy swingman whose clearest strengths showed up in transition. He could grab-and-go, cover ground with long strides, finish with a preferred high gather to his left, flash open-court passing and use his length to jump passing lanes.
KEY NOTES FROM THE ORIGINAL REPORT
- His handle, passing and self-creation were much less effective against set half-court defenses.
- He could toggle between on- and off-ball roles, but neither role was developed enough to drive efficient half-court offense.
- The left-handed jumper looked mechanically clean, with both pull-up and spot-up flashes, although the pull-up results remained inefficient.
- Several well-weighted skip passes suggested complementary passing upside beyond the role he was asked to play.
- His length made him disruptive in passing lanes, but the report wanted to see more point-of-attack usage and full-court pressure.
- Adding strength remained important for playing through contact and maximizing his defensive versatility.
ORIGINAL PROJECTION
At publication, Thiam was already a high-major Division I recruit, but the report viewed him as needing years of polish. It described the NBA as far-fetched at that stage and considered the G League or a solid European league after several years of NCAA development a more realistic path.
