Jai Fa’ale returned for his second NBA Academy Games appearance.

YEAR-OVER-YEAR ABI SIGNAL

Fa’ale remained clearly above the edition average in both appearances. ABI+ is an edition-standardized box-score signal, not a stand-alone prospect grade or a claim that the two fields were equally strong.

IMPROVEMENT AREAS

His ballhandling and decision making was underwhelming throughout the weeklong event , constantly holding onto the rock for too long, racking up unforced turnovers, looking off his teammates to take ill-advised contested shots or simply not spotting the open man.

STRENGTHS

However, Fa’ale remains a valuable D-I college recruit thanks to his shotmaking and floor spacing. I think using the Australian prospect as an off-ball guard on heavy 3P volume makes sense early on.

Plus, he’ll probably be additive enough as a secondary or tertiary ballhandler at that level with a few more years of development under his belt.

Fa’ale’s optimal early college value should be as an off-ball spacer and high volume three-point shooter. The next step is fleshing out his body and handle, plus tightening his decision making enough for him to be a genuine secondary or tertiary ballhandler at a competitive D-I level.
