OPEN INTERACTIVE REPORT + FILM →Benjamin Davies scouting report
Benjamin Davies profiles as a more traditional, narrower 5-man. I’m thinking of his floor right now as a future low-major D-I player, which is already worth looking into.
HISTORICAL QUERY CONTEXT
Davies and Bayero Aliyou were the second- and third-youngest players at the event, respectively, behind N’Dji Ibourahima Coulibaly .
They are in very solid company alongside Khaman Maluach , Ulrich Chomche and David Ugonna Ike . Within this group, Davies seems more like Ike than Maluach or Chomche.
STRENGTHS
Impressive physicality for a 15 y/o. Looks to set hard screens. Tries to move people in the paint to rebound.
He got called for an offensive foul trying to manhandle an opponent when fighting for a board, which is the sort of aggression I love playing up age groups.
He didn’t look out of place physically. Has a projectable role as a drop big on defense who extends+finishes possessions on the glass and finishes plays.
12.3 rebounds per 40 minutes for this event, plus a 17.6 DREB% and 9.9 OREB% , is nice for a 15-year-old.
IMPROVEMENT AREAS
What can he add to his game? Super low usage ( 11.0 USG% ).
Should not get asked to make any decisions right now. Just a 2.7 AST% vs. a 33.3 TOV% . For the event, 0.2 A/TO .
He did not take any threes or free throws during the event.
Already impressive from a strength-and-size standpoint , but needs to keep fine-tuning his body and adding mobility .
Davies already looks worth monitoring because of his physical tools and simple role projection. If he can keep improving as an athlete while staying maintaining a simple but effective role as a drop big who works the glass on both ends, protects the rim and finishes plays around the basket, there is at least a future low-major D-I path to work with. But as a whole, Davies still needs a major uptick in production, which isn't unexpected for his young age.
